Our approach
The University of Exeter had been struggling to harness the power of modern assessment tools and its students were finding it difficult to draw on resources from previous years to support their learning.
CoSector provided strategic consultancy to identify the root cause of the problem and proposed a data-driven digital ecosystem built using our bespoke Assessment Lifecyle Toolkit. This enabled with two-way integrations to join up systems such as Moodle, Turnitin and Panopto with the SITS student records system. Technical work was accompanied by extensive communication and change management activities to support module and programme teams with the new tools. The new approach was piloted and implemented University-wide in less than 18 months and now handles 0.25M assessments and 100M+ hits per year.
Moving to the data-driven approach represented considerable change and required extensive collaboration across academic support, registry and IT functions, but all 29,000+ students now have personalised dashboards to access real-time assessment schedules and previous years’ work, and the University has a data-driven platform that can support academic colleagues in reimagining assessment.
